Talented, creative and caring instructors are the backbone of Wilson School of Dance.
Our inspiring teachers know how important it is to give individual attention to each student at all levels whether they are a new beginner or experienced dancer pursuing dance in college or as a career. The teachers here amazingly have over 90 years of collective teaching experience!
Our director, Juanita Wilson Duquette continues with her passion for teaching everyone from the little Princess Ballet students to the advanced ballet , jazz, or tap classes. The numbers barely seem real but when we got to calculating it’s true -- Juanita has taught over 11,000 students, and choreographed over 1200 dances! She leads and mentors the staff of quality instructors.
The kids love Ms. Lynn's (Tap, Ballet, Jazz) discipline and warmth as she continues with us for 19 years Ms. Ashley ( Dance II, Jazz, Lyrical) has been teachingwith the school going on 7 years and is an inspiring, expressive choreographer and energizing teacher. Ms.Stephanie (Ballet, Contemporary, Performance Group), is a UVA graduate with a minor in dance and has awesome technique which she uses to inspire students. Miss Tessa (Princess Ballet) and Miss Clare (Jazz, Tap, Tumbling) are wonderful with the young students. They have grown up taking here and we are elated they are continuing with the WSD style of teaching. Ms.Alex (Princess ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, Tap, Ballet) started teaching with us this summer and is already a hit with her easy-going, happy energy, excellent dance technique with the latest "tricks" and moves. Ms Libra ( Hip Hop, Jazz, Contemporary, Tap) brings new to us her awesome hip hop and fun style in her choreography. Ms.Kristen (Musical Theater, Contemporary) comes to us with many years of experience from Northern Virginia bringing her award winning choreography skills, and eye for technical details. Most of our teachers have college dance majors or minors and all have experience performing locally or regionally.
Our teachers love kids and have a passion for sharing their love of dance with each student from beginners to advanced. Their dedication and passion for teaching is what parents and students comment most on and remember long after the classes are over. They fill the dance rooms with kindness, support and encouragement . It’s this positive impact that helps students develop confidence and build a healthy lifestyle, plus a love for dance they can enjoy through college and beyond.
